Warning: All AI tools may make mistakes, make sure to always double-check quotes and codes.

The new AI feature in Delve helps you analyze transcripts faster and more efficiently. With this feature, you can brainstorm initial codes, summarize transcripts, find relevant quotes, and interact with your existing codebook - all directly from Transcript pages.

Note: You will need to agree to sign up for our Beta testing agreement in order to access AI features.

Where to Access the AI Feature

The AI button is now available on all Transcript pages in the top right. For now, it is only accessible in the Transcript section and not in other areas.

When you click the AI button, the Ask Delve AI panel will open to the right.

Key Capabilities of the Transcript AI Feature

Use Transcript AI in Delve to:

  • Generate initial high-level codes and themes for a transcript.

  • Summarize a transcript in two to three sentences.

  • Suggest quotes that are relevant to your existing codebook.

Transcript AI Limits

The Transcript AI can only process the information in your codebook (your existing codes and their definitions) and the content in the selected transcript. The AI does not know what snippets have already been coded.

If you would like AI assistance with your snippets, use the AI Chat feature instead.

If you would like your existing codebook and automatically applied to a transcript, check out our auto apply codes feature.

How to Use the AI Feature

Ask a Question

  1. Open the desired Transcript and click the AI button in the top right

  2. Enter your question in the bottom field and click Ask

  3. The AI feature utilizes a Thinking module that may take some time before returning an answer, depending on your questions complexity.

Best Practices

To get the most out of the Transcript AI feature, try to follow the best practices below:

  • Give the AI clear context to improve code relevance.

    • Specify the type of analysis (e.g., content analysis, thematic analysis).

    • Give details about the goals or methodology.

  • Use AI to supplement, not replace, analysis.

  • Start a new chat if you want to focus on a different task or topic. New chats help with organization, allowing you to keep different analyses separate, and avoids the AI becoming confused.

Start a New Chat

To start a new chat on a different topic, click the three dots in the top right of the Ask Delve AI panel. Select New Chat.

This will clear the dialog box for you to start a new set of questions.

You can view past chats by clicking the three dots and selecting View All Chats.

A window will open with a list of your old chats. Click on a chat title to open it.

To remove a chat, click the traschan icon to the far right. Use caution before deleting a chat, this cannot be undone.

AI Recommended Codes

You can ask AI to recommend codes and definitions based on your transcript. You will still need to manually create the codes suggested.

Note: Keep in mind the suggested codes are based off of a single transcript and your existing codebook. You should continue to review your codes and make sure they align with the entirety of your project as you go.

Using Transcript Quotes

The AI can provide direct quotes from the transcript either to support itโ€™s answer or to provide potential snippets for a code. These quotes will be blue.

You can click on a quote and the transcript will automatically jump to the quote location with the text highlighted. You can easily code the quote from there.
