Understanding Transcripts

K
Written by Kate G

Overview

Transcripts are one of the main source documents you can analyze in Delve (the other is Surveys). Each transcript becomes a document you can work with throughout your project. They contain the text you review, code, and organize during your qualitative analysis.

A transcript in Delve can represent:

  • An interview

  • A focus group

  • A meeting

  • A field note

  • Any other text-based qualitative source

Once a transcript is added, you can:

  • Read and code passages

  • Add memos to your snippets

  • Use AI tools (if enabled)

  • Edit transcript text

  • Rename, reorder, or delete transcripts

  • Link directly to specific locations in a transcript

Note: Some Delve features, such as Transcript AI, work directly on transcript pages. To learn more, see:

Transcript File Types

Delve supports transcripts that are text-based. You can add transcripts as:

  • TXT files

  • DOCX files

  • PDF files

  • Copied and pasted text directly into Delve

For more information, see Add a Transcript.

Note: Delve supports text-based files for analysis Delve cannot directly analyze:

  • Audio files

  • Video files

  • Images

If your data is in audio or video form, it should first be transcribed into text before being added to Delve. If you have a CSV file, see Surveys.
