Transcript Formatting Tips

How to format transcripts for optimal viewing in Delve

Written by LaiYee H

Overview

If your transcripts are formatted clearly before being added to Delve, they will be easier to read, code, and analyze.

When transcripts follow a consistent structure, Delve can better display:

  • Speaker names

  • Timestamps

  • Dialogue flow

This improves readability and makes coding more efficient.

Best Practices for Formatting

Speaker and Dialogue Format

A recommended format is:

Speaker Name: What the speaker said

Example:

LaiYee: Hi, thank you for joining me in this interview today.

Gary: Of course. I'm looking forward to the call.

LaiYee: This will be about 1 hour long, and it will be recorded.

Gary: Sounds good!

Using Timestamps

If your transcript includes timestamps, a recommended format is:

Speaker Name: Timestamp What the speaker said

Example:

LaiYee: 00:00:49 Could you walk me through the project where you used Delve

Gary: 00:00:50 Yeah, sure. So, it was for a client project.

Note: If You Are Exporting a transcript from Rev to import into Delve, use the following settings:

  • Choose Columns as the output format

  • Export as a .txt file

  • Select:

    • Include speaker names

    • Include timestamps (if available)
