When collaborating on a project, you can assign transcripts to specific researchers. Assignments make it easier to divide work, see who is responsible for each transcript, and track progress across your project.
Transcript assignments are managed from the Transcript Dashboard.
Researchers can be assigned in two ways:
Manually - by assigning them from the Transcript Dashboard.
Automatically - when they begin coding a transcript.
Assignments are intended to help teams organize work. They do not affect permissions or prevent other researchers from opening or editing a transcript.
See Share Projects to learn about project permissions.
Assign a Transcript
To manually assign a transcript:
Open the Transcript Dashboard.
Locate the transcript you want to assign.
Click the Assigned To field.
Select the researcher you want to assign.
The assignment is saved immediately.
Automatic Assignment
Researchers are automatically assigned to a transcript the first time they begin coding it.
For example, if a researcher opens an unassigned transcript and applies their first code, they will automatically appear as an assigned researcher for that transcript.
Automatic assignment helps teams keep track of who has started working without requiring manual assignment first.
View Assigned Transcripts
The Transcript Dashboard includes an Assigned to Me filter.
Selecting this filter displays only transcripts assigned to your account, making it easy to find the transcripts you're responsible for.
FAQs
Q. Does assigning a transcript prevent other researchers from editing it?
No. Assignments are for organizing work only. Any researcher with Can Edit access can still open and edit the transcript.
See Share Projects.
Q. Can more than one researcher be assigned to the same transcript?
Yes. Multiple researchers can be assigned to the same transcript. This is commonly used for collaborative workflows such as Consensus Coding.
Q. Do I have to manually assign myself before coding?
No. As soon as you begin coding a transcript, Delve automatically assigns you to it.
